Our Story
Square Pegs Dyslexia Support and Advocacy Inc. is a registered charity that began in 2013, when two parents recognised a gap in local information, support and services for dyslexia.
Since then, we’ve grown from a small volunteer group into a statewide organisation with a dedicated team.
Today, we provide information, support and advocacy to families across Tasmania.
Our mission is to improve recognition, understanding and action so that children with dyslexia and related learning differences feel supported, confident and able to succeed.
Our Goals
Our vision is simple. All children to enjoy learning and reach their full potential.
Research shows that teaching approaches that support children with dyslexia benefit every child in the classroom. When learning differences are recognised and supported, barriers are reduced, stress is lowered, and outcomes improve for all students.
Without the right support, children can face ongoing challenges, not just at school, but throughout life with lasting impacts for individuals, families and the wider community.
We are calling for dyslexia to be recognised as a national priority, with focus on:
- Greater awareness and understanding of dyslexia in schools
- High-quality teacher training in evidence-based reading instruction
- Early identification and intervention, including phonics screening
- Adequate funding for support, adjustments and assistive technology
- A consistent, effective approach to assessment and support across all schools

Our Values
Everything we do is guided by our core values.
Respect. Integrity. Inclusion. Courage. Action.
